Rome, 15 June 2026
During the bilateral summit between Italy and Japan, the Japanese Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi, referred to the Strait of Messina Bridge as a symbol of economic cooperation between the two countries.
“I hope that the Strait of Messina Bridge project, which also involves Japanese companies, will come to be a major example of economic cooperation between our two countries. We hope that the bridge will be built as soon as possible, taking advantage of Japan’s know-how and experience”.
CEO, Pietro Ciucci, judged Prime Minister Takaichi’s statement during her meeting with Prime Minister Meloni to be of great importance.
“The words of the Japanese Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi, during today’s bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, are of great importance for the Strait of Messina Bridge project. We have been working with Japan and above all the IHI group, a global leader in the infrastructure sector and a partner in the Eurolink consortium led by Webuild, for many years. Cooperation has intensified recently in view of the upcoming start of work on the detailed design and construction. Together with the Minister of Infrastructure, Matteo Salvini, we recently met senior managers from IHI, who reiterated the group’s firm commitment to the project, confirming its international value and importance”.
