WOULDN’T IT BE BETTER TO BUILD A MULTI-SPAN BRIDGE?
The three-span bridge solution, featuring piers in the sea, was studied extensively in the 1990s. The studies conducted revealed significant geological, geotechnical, operational, environmental, and navigation safety issues in the Strait, as well as clear economic inefficiencies. For these reasons, the multi-span bridge solution was discarded in favor of the single-span bridge.
