The single-span Strait of Messina Bridge will set several records for the size of its various components compared with bridges currently in operation, including:

• Central suspended span: 3,300 meters.
• Height of the towers on the two banks: 399 meters
• Suspension cable diameter: 1.26 meters, each consisting of 44,323 steel wires
