FAQ
Why is the Strait of Messina Bridge a European project?
In 2024, the European Council reaffirmed the inclusion of the Strait of Messina Bridge as a key infrastructure project within the “Scandinavian-Mediterranean” corridor.
With creation of the TEN-T network and its corridors, the EU aims to provide seamless transport, building the missing links, encouraging intermodality and removing existing bottlenecks. This is why the EU recognises that the Bridge will contribute to meeting European goals and has highlighted how the project is of common interest, as it will have a positive impact on the four objectives on which development of the TEN-T corridors is based: cohesion, efficiency, sustainability and increased user benefits.
