WILL CONSTRUCTION OF THE STRAIT OF MESSINA BRIDGE BENEFIT COMMUTERS?
The Bridge will seamlessly connect the rail and highway networks between the two regions, integrating them into a more efficient and extensive transportation system.
In particular, commuter travel will benefit from the introduction of a metropolitan rail link connecting the urban areas of Messina and Reggio Calabria, which will be far more extensive and efficient than the current ferry or hydrofoil services. Three new rail stations (Papardo, Annunziata, and Europa) are planned, which, along with the existing stations in Messina, Villa San Giovanni and Reggio Calabria, will create a metro system linking Messina and Reggio Calabria, serving over 400,000 residents in the Strait area.
