Overall, the shift of traffic flows from road to rail will result in a reduction in CO2 emissions.
Taking into account the modal shift towards rail, it is estimated that the Bridge will cut approximately 12.8 million tons of CO2eq over the period from the start-up of work through to the end of the thirty-year concession term. This estimate includes emissions produced during site preparation (approximately 2 million tonnes of CO₂eq) and those linked to increased road and rail traffic. Projected benefits linked to the cut in emissions of CO₂eq have been estimated on a prudent basis to take into account expected improvements in the energy efficiency of means of transport and fuel, including in the maritime sector.
