MEETING BETWEEN INGV AND STRETTO DI MESSINA SPA: TOWARDS A STRATEGIC SCIENTIFIC COLLABORATION ON THE STRAIT OF MESSINA BRIDGE
Rome 17 June 2025
A meeting was held today at the Rome headquarters of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) between the President of INGV, Fabio Florindo, and the CEO of Stretto di Messina SpA, Pietro Ciucci.
The meeting, which provided an important opportunity for dialogue and exchange on technical and scientific matters, was aimed at strengthening cooperation between the research institute and the operator responsible for designing and building the Strait of Messina Bridge.
The discussions focused on the crucial role played by geophysical and seismological expertise in the planning and safety of one of Italy’s most important infrastructure projects. INGV will make its expertise and wealth of data available for the additional in-depth studies set to be carried out during the Detailed Design phase, with particular reference to seismic and geodetic monitoring in the Strait of Messina area.
The synergy between scientific research and major public works is a strategic element in ensuring the construction of modern, safe infrastructure that pays due consideration to local conditions. Today’s meeting marks another significant step in this direction.
