THE DIGITAL MAILBOX, AN INNOVATIVE TOOL TO FACILITATE EXCHANGE OF DOCUMENTS AND COMMUNICATIONS WITH PARTIES AFFECTED BY THE COMPULSORY PURCHASE PROCEDURE, HAS BEEN SET UP. IT WILL BE OPERATIONAL FROM 10 JUNE
Rome, 8 May 2024 – Tomorrow will see publication of a notice of establishment of the Digital Mailbox in national and local newspapers in Sicily and Calabria. This tool, envisaged by Legislative Decree 35/2023, is aimed at dematerialising the exchange of communications between parties and facilitating access to the documents of parties affected by the compulsory purchase procedures relating to construction of the Strait of Messina bridge.
This innovative tool will be used on a voluntary basis. From 10 June, parties affected by the compulsory purchase procedures will be able to request its activation and use via a form that will be posted on Stretto di Messina’s website. An IT help desk service will also be available from Monday 10 June to support people who wish to make use of the digital mailbox. The desk can be contacted from Monday to Friday on the toll-free number 800766472.
“Once again,” said the Company’s CEO, Pietro Ciucci, “the Strait of Messina Bridge project has proved to be a vehicle for innovation, by pioneering the application of dematerialisation to such a complex procedure as compulsory purchases. Obviously, publication of this notice does not entail any acceleration of compulsory purchase procedures. Rather, it serves to prepare the ground for the implementation of compulsory purchase orders, which depends on approval of the final design by the Interministerial Committee for Economic Planning and Sustainable Development (CIPESS), scheduled for this autumn.
