STRAIT OF MESSINA BRIDGE: COURT OF AUDITORS PROCEEDS WITH ORDINARY AUDIT

Rome, 17 November 2025
The Court of Auditors is proceeding with its ordinary audit of the administrative acts regarding the Strait of Messina Bridge project. The audit, conducted today by the Court’s central division, related to the addendum to the concession arrangement entered into by Stretto di Messina with the grantor, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.

The Chairman of Stretto di Messina, Giuseppe Recchi, noted that: “I don’t consider this to be a new act as the issues dealt with are closely linked. We have decided to call a Board of Directors’ meeting for 25 November to examine the situation whilst waiting to know the Court of Auditors’ reasoning, which should be published in the coming days.”

“We expected the Court of Auditors to refuse registration,” said Stretto di Messina’s CEO, Pietro Ciucci, “as the concession arrangement is functionally tied to the CIPESS resolution approving the final design for the bridge dated 6 August, which the Court refused to register on 29 October. We are waiting to know the reasons for both decisions. We are certain that all the additional information required will be forthcoming from the relevant government bodies, with Stretto di Messina playing a full part in the process. This will allow us to proceed with delivery of the bridge, a strategic project of pre-eminent national interest, as established by law.”
