STRAIT OF MESSINA BRIDGE: COMPULSORY PURCHASE ORDERS: PUBLICATION OF NOTICE OF CLOSURE OF CONSULTATION WITH INTERESTED PARTIES
Using the comments submitted and the information acquired through citizens’ participation, as well as via information desks, expropriation plans and lists of parties affected by compulsory purchase orders have been revised, including reductions in easements and temporary occupations.
Messina, Villa San Giovanni, 10 July 2024 – Stretto di Messina has today published a notice of closure of the consultation with interested parties regarding expropriation plans and lists of parties affected by compulsory purchase orders, which have been revised following a preliminary assessment of the observations submitted by the interested parties.
In particular, Stretto di Messina’s sterling efforts in managing the information desks in Messina and Villa San Giovanni enabled significant participation by interested parties, who were able to obtain information and explanations on the expropriation plans and submit their observations. As a result of the contribution made by the parties, with the support of the General Contractor as project designer, Stretto di Messina was able to reorganise and optimise certain initiatives aimed at removing obstacles. Construction site design projections were also revised, leading to reductions in easements and temporary occupations. Primarily, the changes regarded the reduction of construction site buffer zones.
This is borne out in today’s re-publication, resulting in a significant decrease in the number of parties who will be affected by compulsory purchase orders.
The expropriation plans and lists of the parties affected by compulsory purchase orders, which have been revised following the preliminary assessment of the observations submitted by the affected parties, have been posted on Calabria Regional Authority’s website at https://www.regione.calabria.it, Sicily Regional Authority’s website at https://www.regione.sicilia.it, and on Stretto di Messina’s website at https://www.strettodimessina.it.
The imposition of the compulsory purchase order and the declaration of public utility will be decided on approval of the final project for the Strait of Messina Bridge by the Interministerial Committee for Economic Planning and Sustainable Development (CIPESS). Compulsory purchase orders will only be executed after approval by CIPESS, in phases as the construction activities proceed.
