WORKING MEETING BETWEEN THE MAYOR OF VILLA SAN GIOVANNI GIUSY CAMINITI AND STRETTO DI MESSINA CEO PIETRO CIUCCI

Today, the Mayor of Villa San Giovanni, Giusy Caminiti, met Stretto di Messina’s CEO, Pietro Ciucci, at the Company’s headquarters in Rome.

Many topics of discussion came up during the meeting, including the outcome of the technical working group held on 27 September between representatives of the municipality of Villa San Giovanni and the engineers in charge of Stretto di Messina’s technical department. This focused, among other things, on: the road and rail links; the construction site road system, regarding which previously identified mitigation measures have been confirmed, with further details to be provided in the detailed design; an update on the state of progress of the compulsory purchase procedures, with a view to facilitating and overseeing a clear, transparent pathway that takes into account all stakeholders; the opening of a Company office in Villa San Giovanni; the operational headquarters to be based on Piale, regarding which a solution has been identified relating to construction of the planned recycling centre; the ancillary works already included in the final design, as well as the works involved in integration into the local area, to be identified with the Villa San Giovanni authorities, which will then be submitted to the  Interministerial Committee for Economic Planning and Sustainable Development (CIPESS) during approval of the final design; and the park project in the Forte Beleno area and the plan to camouflage the re-routed railway track in Cannitello.

Regarding the latter, on the same day, a specific meeting was held at Stretto di Messina between Mayor Caminiti, the councillor for public works and town planning, Albino Rizzuto, councillor Franco Scicchitano, Franco Carpinelli, architect, and technicians from Stretto di Messina and Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), aimed at identifying a final alternative route for the track at Cannitello.

“Today’s meeting, together with last week’s technical working group,” commented Villa San Giovanni Mayor Giusy Caminiti, “bear witness to the great efforts made by the Villa San Giovanni authorities to maintain constant dialogue on the bridge in accordance with the strategic choices made for our city, whilst maximising opportunities and providing strong support to citizens from the planning stage on.”

“One of Stretto di Messina’s main commitments,” said the Company’s CEO, Pietro Ciucci, “is to maintain constant dialogue with the cities affected by the bridge, as it is a local project that will benefit the local area. Even more so today with the delivery of the designers’ report, which sets us firmly on the path to approval of the final design.”
