STRETTO DI MESSINA BRIDGE, CEO CIUCCI: “SERVICES CONFERENCE BEGINS. ANOTHER STEP FORWARD IN THE PROJECT APPROVAL PROCESS”
Rome, 29 March 2024 – “The start of the Services Conference on 16 April,” commented Stretto di Messina CEO, Pietro Ciucci, “as notified today by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, marks another step forward in the approval process for building the Strait of Messina Bridge. Equally important was the memorandum from the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, which recently stated that it was ‘procedurally feasible’ to start assessment of the environmental documents.
As planned and notified, convening the Conference is subject to approval of the updated version of the project’s final design by Stretto di Messina’s Board of Directors, together with delivery of the design drawings to the relevant ministries and authorities.”
Also in the next few days, a notice of commencement of a compulsory purchase procedure, in preparation for a declaration of public utility, to be ratified on approval of the final design for the Strait of Messina Bridge by the Interministerial Committee for Economic Planning and Sustainable Development (CIPESS), will be published tomorrow in national and local newspapers in Sicily and Calabria.
“This intermediate phase, linked to the publication of the notice,” explained Mr Ciucci, “will enable all the affected parties to view the documentation on the expropriation plan and make any comments. Stretto di Messina will open information desks in Messina and Villa San Giovanni, located in dedicated spaces made available by the respective municipalities, in order to provide any support needed in analysing the documentation.”
