The European Commission has approved co-financing of €25 million for preparation of the detailed design, equal to 50% of the cost of the design for railway infrastructure.

Messina, Villa San Giovanni, 16 July 2024 – On the sidelines of the G7 Commerce meeting held in Villa San Giovanni, where the Strait of Messina Bridge project was presented to foreign ministers, Stretto di Messina’s CEO, Pietro Ciucci, commented on the European Commission’s decision regarding financing of the detailed design.

“Financing of the detailed design,” said  Mr Ciucci, “is an important signal from the European Union. It totals €25 million, or 50% of the amount earmarked for the railway part of the project. The European Union has thus confirmed the bridge’s strategic importance within the TEN-T network.“
