COMPANY COMPLETES PROCESS OF INFORMING PUBLIC ON COMPULSORY PURCHASES
Over 600 people received in 60 days
Messina – Villa San Giovanni, 7 June 2024 – The information phase at the compulsory purchase desks set up by Stretto di Messina in the premises made available by the municipal authorities of Messina and Villa San Giovanni ended at 1pm today.
The compulsory purchase information desks, which started operating on Monday 8 April, have enabled all the affected parties to view documentation regarding the expropriation plan and to make any comments.
The initiative, although not envisaged by the relevant regulatory framework, was strongly promoted by the Company, in full awareness of the due attention to be paid to the local area with respect to such an important and delicate issue as compulsory purchase orders, and yielded the following results in its 60 days of operation: 503 people were received at the Messina desk set up at the Palacultura, and 118 people were received at the premises of the former Magistrate’s Court in Villa San Giovanni.
“Receiving more than 600 people at the information desks is a positive outcome,” commented Gioacchino Lucangeli, engineer and head of Stretto di Messina’s compulsory purchase unit. Informing parties affected by compulsory purchase orders is a priority. Working in a proactive and collaborative atmosphere, the most frequently asked questions primarily fell within four categories: information on the various types of compulsory purchase procedure, such as expropriation, temporary occupation and, in particular, easement for public utilities; criteria for determining compensation; timeframes for the compulsory purchase procedure; and specific comments on the project and construction site. The consultation phase, together with the comments submitted, will enable Stretto di Messina to finalise the compulsory purchase documentation, and to optimise the areas involved in the procedures, leading to a reduction in the number of parties affected.”
It should be noted that a “digital mailbox” will be activated from Monday 10 June. This tool can be used on a voluntary basis to dematerialise the exchange of communications between the parties and facilitate access to the documents of those affected by compulsory purchase procedures regarding construction of the Strait of Messina Bridge.
Parties affected by the compulsory purchase procedures will be able to request its activation and use via a form that will be posted on Stretto di Messina’s website. An IT help desk service will also be available from Monday 10 June to support people who wish to make use of the digital mailbox. The service may be contacted from Monday to Friday on the toll-free number 800766472 for calls from Italy, and on 068758555 for calls from overseas. The service is available Monday to Friday, from 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 4.30pm.
