fino a Palermo e Catania per raggiungere Malta.<br \/>Scopo principale del sistema infrastrutturale \u00e8 quello di rendere pi\u00f9 sostenibile il trasporto di merci e passeggeri riducendo l\u2019impatto ambientale spostando la circolazione da gomma a rotaia, facilitando allo stesso tempo il commercio attraverso la rimozione dei colli di bottiglia che attualmente causano rallentamenti e ritardi.<br \/>La Stretto di Messina ha partecipato e vinto un bando europeo &#8211; Connecting Europe Facility for Transport &#8211; aperto a tutti i Paesi dell\u2019Unione per il finanziamento di opere di trasporto. In questo ambito la Commissione Europea ha, evidenziato l\u2019interesse collettivo dell\u2019Opera, sulla base della sua capacit\u00e0 di incidere sui quattro gli obiettivi dei corridoi TEN-T: coesione, efficienza, sostenibilit\u00e0 e incremento dei benefici per gli utenti. Tra i parametri valutati anche le positive ricadute socioeconomiche e ambientali del progetto, la riduzione dei tempi di viaggio, dell\u2019impatto acustico e delle emissioni inquinanti. Positiva valutazione anche per la capacit\u00e0 del progetto di incrementare l\u2019accessibilit\u00e0 e lo sviluppo economico di Calabria e Sicilia, migliorando le
