Infatti, in fase di progetto preliminare il <a href=\"https:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ponte_dello_stretto_di_Akashi\">ponte sullo stretto di Akashi<\/a> prevedeva anche il passaggio dei treni ma, alla fine degli anni \u201970, le mutate esigenze trasportistiche del periodo evidenziate nel Piano Nazionale dei Trasporti, portarono ad optare per una soluzione unicamente stradale. La scelta non \u00e8 stata quindi dettata da difficolt\u00e0 tecniche legate alla realizzazione come confermato anche dalla Honshu-Shikoku Bridge Authority (il gestore del ponte Akashi) nel corso di una missione ufficiale di una delegazione mista Anas, Ferrovie dello Stato e Stretto di Messina.
