More than 800 design documents, out of a total of 10,000, updated, bringing forward many studies that would have been carried out during preparation of the detailed design.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>

Rome, 12 September 2024<\/em> – Stretto di Messina today delivered the additional documentation requested by the EIA – SEA Committee at the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE) and the Ministry of Culture (MIC), as well as responses to comments submitted by the public and associations. Preparation of the additions began last April and has been completed on schedule.<\/p>

To meet the 239 requests from MASE and the 11 from MIC, more than 800 design documents, out of a total of 10,000, have been updated, thus bringing forward many studies that would have been carried out during preparation of the detailed design.<\/p>

The documentation submitted, which will be posted on the MASE website, includes sectoral and in-depth studies, which, on the basis of revised data and new modelling, provided information for the additions. The complexity and variety of the topics covered called for the engagement, by the General Contractor, Eurolink, of a multidisciplinary design team, comprising leading national and international companies, professionals and university professors. The activity involved continuous dialogue between the General Contractor, Eurolink, and Stretto di Messina, with the participation of the Expert Panel as regards environmental issues, the Project Management Consultant, Parsons Transportation Group, and the Environmental Monitor, Edison Next Environment. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

“We have completed the additions and in-depth studies requested by MASE and MIC within the set timeframe,” commented Stretto di Messina CEO, Pietro Ciucci. “The Company gave its utmost attention to this matter and made full use of the time allowed by the regulations. Some focal points involved field studies, such as additional faunal, bathymetric and underwater surveys, which required a certain amount of time to provide prompt and comprehensive technical responses. The Company has invested and will step up investment in the environment and the project’s sustainability, in full awareness of the complex ecosystems present in the areas concerned. The many precautions taken and the construction methods applied make the bridge project a state-of-the-art initiative that respects the environment and the landscape. Before, during and after execution of the project, the Environmental Monitoring Plan will be a vital control tool for constant monitoring of activities, thereby enabling Stretto di Messina to check the effectiveness of the planned and implemented mitigation measures in real time.”<\/p>
