The Bridge will link Sicily and Calabria at the point where the two coastlines are closest, with a modern, reliable structure that will form the hub for an integrated infrastructure system serving the local area and its people.<\/strong><\/p>

Thanks to the deck\u2019s wing-like profile, the Bridge is designed to withstand wind speeds of over 216 km per hour. The maximum wind speed recorded in the area in over twenty years of wind monitoring is 108 km per hour, at the level of the deck (70 metres), and 130 km an hour at a height of 128 metres (the position of the anemometric station). The wind tunnel tests carried out have enabled us to ensure a comfortable crossing, allowing traffic to continue to use the bridge even in high winds. From a seismic viewpoint, the Bridge is able to withstand an earthquake of 7.1 on the Richter scale (comparable to the quake that struck Messina in 1908).<\/p>
